Im from a small town in kerala. The parking space around here is less that vehicles are parked on the road. One of the main reason for this is the scarcity of land.
One of the idea that I got was to use buildings in the available parking spaces. This would help to reduce the amount of vehicles especially cars which is parked on the road. It would help in reducing traffic and also the accidents as there will be space to drive.
